The Importance Of Moisturizing

importance of moisturizing

With skin being the largest organ of the human body, it seems to make sense that we take good care of it. A regular routine involving daily moisturizing isn’t just an aesthetic practice, it is hugely important to maintain healthy, blemish-free and age-defying skin. You must replenish your skin with the moisture it may have lost after cleansing. In addition, as we age, the oil glands that keep skin healthy begin to deteriorate and create fewer oils. Daily moisturizing takes the load off the skin glands so they don’t have to work as hard to keep your skin healthy throughout your life.  For beautiful skin that glows it must be hydrated and able to retain that moisture throughout your day.

Which moisturizer should I use?

Not all skin creams are created equally, with some being better than others. Do you know where the product is manufactured?  Check the ingredient list and be cautious of additives and fillers.  Make sure the product is clinically tested. It should be non-medicated, hypoallergenic, lanolin-free,  and non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores).

When to moisturize

It is recommended to apply moisturizer at least once a day, better if you can do it twice, kinda like brushing your teeth. The most important time to use moisturizer is after cleansing and/or exfoliation. Moisturizing after a shower is very important because hot water can wreak havoc on your skin, often depleting all the moisture and oils out of your skin, leaving it parched and dry.

Why moisturize

If your skin dries out, an imbalance occurs, generally having a negative impact. You may notice increased redness or a rash, chapping, more instances of acne, and even shiny skin from an overreactive production of oil. To avoid this, what you want is a moisturizer that balances your skin.

Skin on your face, neck and chest are generally the most sensitive to the sun and environmental changes. The cells of exposed skin will shed more cells than non-exposed skin. Moisturization enables repair in this process, leaving the skin less prone to cancer as younger skin cells rise to the surface. The massaging affect that is used when applying moisturizer also helps stimulate blood circulation and new cell generation.

Moisturizing your skin can help fight wrinkles and keep a youthful look! In general, regular hydration helps protect the skin and decreases the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Do you want to look old before your time? The daily routine of skin moisturization can keep wrinkles at bay, by giving the skin plumpness, and a firmer appearance showing fewer wrinkles. The opposite happens if the skin dries out, wrinkles will become more obvious and that makes you look older. Daily moisturizing can also help to conceal other skin blemishes because of the slight sheen it generates.
